The concept of sustainability in tourism and the term Responsible Travel, was coined right here in South Africa at the World Summit on Sustainable Development held in Cape Town in 2002. This concept focuses on minimizing the negative economic, environmental, and social impact of tourism and instead makes positive contributions to local communities, cultural heritage and conservation.
Maison Chablis Guest House is committed to improving its sustainability and constantly takes stock of the impact it has on its environment. The guest house has introduced the following initiatives to improve its sustainability:
Recognition

Maison Chablis Guest House was recently recognized by Booking.com as Travel Sustainable Properties.
Local Staff

Employing local staff from Franschhoek and surrounds helps to create jobs in the community that Maison Chablis Guest House operates. All of our out staff are Xhosa people.
Energy saving

LED energy saving lightbulbs have been fitted around the guest house.
Supporting SA Tourism

At Maison Chablis Guest House we recommend local guides and drivers to guests enquiring about sightseeing and transfer options.
Supporting local businesses

Franschhoek is home to some of South Africa’s top food and wine experiences. As a proud business born in the Franschhoek Valley we don’t hesitate to recommend local eateries, wine farms and experiences to our guests. Our kitchen is also stocked as far as possible with produce farmed and produced in the surrounding area.
