1. Reubens

Franschhoek is the town where celebrity chef Reuben Riffel calls home and his restaurant – Reuben’s – has long been considered one of South Africa’s top eateries. The restaurant is known for creating fine but uncomplicated cuisine in a laid-back setting. Its menu boasts traditional favourites like crispy pork belly and creamy butter chicken as well as more unusual flavours, such as peppered springbok steaks.

2. Épice

Derived from the French word meaning spice, this fine dining restaurant serves up an aray of flavoursome dishes. Headed up by chef Charne Sampson the curated menu is inspired by memories of travels through India, Spain, Japan, Mexico, Denmark and the US.

This casual-style eatery features meals created by a series of talented young chefs. Serving up trendy small plates with Asian, French and Italian influences, these meals are ideal for sharing.

4. Oku

The brainchild of two acclaimed chefs, Ryan Shell and Darren Badenhorst, Oku Asian Eatery was established in Franschhoek following a culinary exploration by Darren and Ryan of the Gili Islands in Indonesia. Sample a wide array of bao, dumplings, broths, poke bowls, noodle bowls and broths.

5. Tuk Tuk Microbrewies

The cheerful and fun Tuk Tuk Microbrewery is less than 200m from Maison Chablis Guest House. Run by local chef Darren Badenhorst this landmark microbrewery on Franschhoek’s main street serves up an offering of globally inspired dishes and locally crafted beers. Specialty dishes include tacos, eisbein, gambas chorizo and Tuk Tuk Lager beer-battered fish and chips. All are best paired with one of Tuk Tuk Microbrewery’s five specially crafted brews.
